OWNER’S HOUSE FIRE NIGHTMARE

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

WHEN Nadir Fisher was told his house had caught fire, he initially thought it was a joke.

But when he arrived at his Clagiraba property yesterday afternoon, he realised it was more like a nightmare.

The 69-year-old said he had been out at Movie World with his family when he received a call that his Landman Court property was engulfed in flames.

“At first I thought it was a joke,” he said. “It’s a steel frame home, it’s supposed to be safer compared with timber.”

The $600,000 house was completely gutted after a fire tore through it just before 2pm. The home became heavily smoke logged leading to more damage.

Mr Fisher said the last thing he remembered doing before leaving the home was making a cheese toastie for his young son.

“The last thing I made was a toasted cheese sandwich ... but I doubt very much that was the cause of it,” he said.

Nerang station officer Rik Jackson said the damage to the property was quite extensive.

“I’d say it will be a knockdown,” he said. “The fire appeared to start towards the back of the house, in the lounge area.”

He said it took about two hours for the blaze to be extinguished.
