TIA-CLAIR Toomey has some competition for the title of fittest woman in the world after being trumped yesterday at the Commonwealth and Oceania Weightlifting Championships.

The Gladstone product won this year’s world CrossFit Games barely a month ago in the United States to earn the unofficial accolade.

It meant a late return to fully-fledged weightlifting training for the Rio Olympian, opening the door for Solomon Islands lifter Jenly Wini at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre.

Wini combined an 87kg snatch with a 109kg clean and jerk to comfortably secure automatic qualification in the 58kg division for April’s Commonwealth Games, which will be held in the same venue.

Toomey managed successful lifts of 75kg and 102kg to finish out of the medals, while Australian teammate Erika Yamasaki was second with her 77kg and 103kg effort.

Both Australians will have another chance in December to qualify for the 2018 Games, with Yamasaki tipped to drop to her favoured 53kg division where she will be a major medal hope.

Competition until Sunday. continues
