Bush blazes keep firies busy

- KRISTY MUIR

FIREFIGHTERS have worked around the clock to contain two bushfires burning in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

Properties in Wongawallan and Cedar Creek were not under direct threat but people in the area were affected by smoke, which reduced visibility and air quality.

The fires are expected to continue to burn into the weekend.

Water bombing helicopters were used to assist firies on the ground of the two fire fronts.

The Wongawallan bushfire is burning in an inaccessible area in the vicinity of Lanes Rd, Elevation Dve and Upper Ormeau Rd (also known as Howard Creek Plc).

Firefighters are putting in firebreaks and were expected to remain overnight to keep an eye on the blaze.

The Cedar Creek fire, which began on Tuesday morning, is burning near Rowe Lane.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services wants locals to keep up to date and decide what action they would take if the situation changes.
