NORTH GET YOUR POTS READY AS CRAB FUN HEATS UP

THERE have been some good reports of tailor in the Broadwater around the Aldershots. Try live bait off the seaway wall, either near the southern end or near the pipeline for King Fish. It’s early in the season but a few Mangrove Jacks have been caught. Flatheads are biting well this week, best method has been slow trolling off the banks up near the pin. Plenty of sand crabs around too so get your pots in the water.

WEST WIND JUST RIGHT FOR BASS FRENZY IN THE WATER

IT’S open season for Bass and there should be plenty of fish around. This time of year they are heading one direction and that is upstream. Bass love these windy days we have been having as it blows insects onto the water and can create a feeding frenzy. You want a lure that looks like the insects being blown onto the water. Try Hinze Dam in the upper reaches and the lakes around Robina.

EAST MOON THEORY DELIVERING BIG JEWFISH

SOME experienced fisherman I know swear that big Jewfish bite best five days either side of the full moon. Today is two days after and there have been quality ones landed this week off the closer reefs. Weather has been ordinary so not many boats have been out to the 50s but those that have picked up some massive snapper, Kingfish and Amberjack. As I mentioned last week, try for spanner crabs in 50m of water out the front of the Q1.

SOUTH KINGFISH MAKE ANGLERS WORK FOR CATCHES

UNFORTUNATELY reports are that the Kingfish have moved out further to the 50 fathom reef. You’ll still have some fun but burn more fuel to get into the action. Nine Mile Reef has been slow this week, but some quality snapper and pearl perch have been taken on squid at the 50s. If you don’t have a boat, try spinning a raider lure off the rocks at Burleigh for tailor and the odd big jewie has been taken using live bait in the surf gutters south of the Tweed.
