Draw has Pariah ready to pounce
TRAINER Peter Snowden expects jockey Blake Shinn to take full advantage of Pariah’s favourable barrier and have the boom colt stalking the leaders in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill tomorrow.
“Pariah should get into a nice spot from his good gate (three),’’ Snowden said.
“It would be silly to waste it – I think Pariah will be in the first four or five early.’’
Pariah had to be ridden conservatively from a wide barrier when resuming in the San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on August 26 but a combination of Shinn’s brilliant ride and the colt’s explosive acceleration resulted in a dominant comeback win.
Snowden could not have expected any more from Pariah ($3.10) first-up but concedes the colt needs to improve again when he takes on a top class field including Menari ($2.50) tomorrow.
“This race will be a good learning curve for everyone,’’ Snowden said.
“I think there will probably be six or seven from this race backing up in the Golden Rose in a fortnight so it is going to be a very interesting race.’’
Snowden, who trains in a partnership with his son Paul, also saddles up topweight Invader ($16) in the Run To The Rose.
Invader, winner of the Group 1 ATC Sires Produce Stakes last season, resumed with a sixth placing behind Deploy, who broke the Randwick 1200m track record winning the Show County Quality (1200m) at Randwick three weeks ago.
“This is probably not a race that suits Invader (tomorrow) as he is not quite as sharp as those good colts,’’ Snowden said.
“In these 1200m races he tends to hit a flat spot. They dropped him at the 600m last start but watch his last 100m, he hit the line really well.
“Invader is going great and he will be ready to go for the Golden Rose in a couple of weeks because the tempo of races at 1400m and 1600m suits him perfectly.’’
