Man ‘set cat on fire’

A MAN has allegedly trapped his neighbour’s cat, set it on fire and let it run home to its devastated owner.

Police say the man used a trap to catch the cat in Innisfail, far north Queensland, early on Saturday. He then doused in it petrol, set it alight and released it.

The animal ran home where it was found by its owner who took it to a vet. It had to be euthanised.

Police charged a 62-yearold man with serious animal cruelty. He is to appear at Innisfail Magistrates Court on September 18.
