PLUMB RIDING HIGH WITH COAST TREBLE
JOCKEY Ryan Plumb has added to his best ever start to a season by celebrating three wins at the Gold Coast.
Plumb won on trainer Marcus Wilson’s Ritchford, Les Kelly’s Desmon’s Pride and John Zielke’s Future Event on Saturday and came within a nose of winning a fourth on Debbie Newham’s Sofie’s Gold Class.
The 28-year-old jockey now has 10 wins from 52 starts to give him what he labelled the best start to any of his previous seasons.
“It’s been very promising,” Plumb said.
“I have got horses that are coming through their grades.
“It makes it a lot easier getting out of bed riding these horses that are going to be winning races and taking you forward.”
Five of Plumb’s wins have come for Gold Coast-based Kelly who he said had played a major part in his success.
“Les Kelly’s stable has really helped,” Plumb said. “We have been having a really good run and I’ve been having a lot of luck for him.
“The horses are all turning up and racing really well and everything is working out well.”
Plumb will ride the Kellytrained Freddie Fox Trot, a last-start Coast winner, at Doomben next Saturday.
“He won really impressively on the Gold Coast and it’s nice to go to town on horses coming through their grades and still on the up,” Plumb said.
Plumb was confident he had multiple potential winners going into Saturday’s meeting and said Desmon’s Pride’s victory was the best of the lot.
“He was first-up and will take a bit of improvement out of that run after only having one trial leading into the race,” Plumb said.
“I ride him regularly in trackwork and do a lot of his gallops on him.
“I think he would be able to win a Saturday race in town over a mile.”
