GOLD Coast riding greats Jeff Lloyd and the late Ken Russell have been honoured in Racing Queensland awards.

Veteran horseman Lloyd, who broke the Brisbane metropolitan and Queensland records for most wins in a season in 2016-17, was crowned jockey of the year at the awards night on Saturday.

Russell, who was inducted into the Queensland Racing Hall of Fame on Saturday, was dubbed the “King of the Coast’’ in the 1980s.

He won five successive premierships and rode a record 76 winners in a season.

He tasted feature race success across the country before he was killed in a race fall in Sydney in 1993.

Sunshine Coast-trained Group 1 winner Yankee Rose was named Queensland’s Horse of the Year.

Yankee Rose won the award from Group 1 winner Capital Gain, Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Houtzen, Summer Triple Crown winner Most Important and tough Gold Coast gelding Rudy.
