Was a popular favourite with punters and he was backed in to $2.40. The three-year-old started a run three-wide at the 600m mark, wound up strongly in the straight and managed to fend off the fast-finishing Yeppoon.
Finest Sailing (Race 1)
The four-year-old was met with heavy support in the early markets but eased from $2.35 out to $2.50 on the day. She settled fourth and peeled three wide at the top of the straight. Finest Sailing raised the spinnaker and powered to the line, winning by half a length. LOSERS
■ Royal Myth (Race 2)
Despite easing from $1.95 to $2.20, Royal Myth was still clear favourite. The three-year-old filly couldn’t hold the rail, was out of puff early in the straight and weakened to finish last behind Brat Attack.
Sugarparma (Race 7)
Sugarparma was the biggest plunge of the day, shortening from $4 in to $2.80. There were some sizeable bets on her, including $1800 at $3.70. The four-year-old mare looked to have her chance but didn’t let down in the straight as well as punters envisaged. NEXT TIME
■ Rolling Cloud (Race 1)
Rolling Cloud drifted on the day from $2.50 to $3.20. The five-year-old didn’t jump with them, raced tight and had nowhere to go in the straight. She finished the race off well, despite the tardy start.
Always Sacred (Race 3)
The Toby Edmonds-trained Always Sacred, was solid in betting and jumped at $2.25. The five-year-old blew the start and mustered speed to sit three wide on a solid tempo. He still looked a chance in the straight but weakened in the final stages. Follow.
Go The Gantry (Race 6) Go The Gantry was met with early support, shortening from $2 in to $1.90 but eased back out to $2.60 late. The five-year-old got held up and then blocked in the straight. Once he balanced up, he hit the line nicely.
