A CONVERSATION COULD CHANGE A LIFE SEPTEMBER 14

-

MENTAL health issues are likely to affect almost half of the Australian population at some stage in their lives. R U OK? Day is a day dedicated to inspiring and empowering everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them by asking the simple question “Are you OK?”

The day was founded by marketing executive Gavin Larkin in 2009. Inspired by the suicide death of his father Barry, Gavin hoped to encourage more people to take time to reach out to anyone struggling with life. He set up R U OK? as a personal project to honour his father.

Sadly Larkin died of lymphoma in 2011. Australians are asked to continue to wholeheartedly embrace this concept of checking in on the welfare of each other in memory of Gavin’s dream.

The day is a call to action reminding Australians to connect with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours to see how they are doing.
