Aplant-based “meat” startup, Beyond Meat, also backed by Bill Gates, is on a mission to create mass-market solutions that replace animal protein with plant protein. The Beyond Burger is made from simple plantbased ingredients. Peas provide the protein, traces of beetroot lend the beefy red colour, coconut oil and potato starch ensure the burger’s mouth-watering juiciness. The Beyond Burger patty looks, cooks, and tastes like a fresh beef burger and is becoming popular in selected US supermarkets as a result of growing awareness of the health, environmental, and animal welfare downsides of traditional animal-based meat
