Posioned by apricot

-

A MAN who gave himself cyanide poisoning from apricot kernel extract highlights the dangers of some supplementary medicines, doctors say.

The 67-year-old was found to have 25 times the acceptable level of cyanide in his blood after routine surgery in 2015, a study published in the BMJ medical journal reveals.

The man told doctors he had taken two teaspoons of homemade apricot kernel extract and three Novodalin, or herbal fruit kernel supplement tablets, daily for five years.
