Veggie buffs’ cold serve
VEGETARIANS are more likely to develop the winter blues than meat eaters, say Dutch researchers.
A team from the University of Groningen found that vegetarians in Finland were four times more likely to have seasonal affective disorder (SAD) than meat-eaters.
In the Netherlands, vegetarians had three times the risk. This may be linked to lower intakes of vitamin B12, suggest the researchers.
The vitamin is found in animal products, and plays a role in the production of brain chemicals that affect mood.
