BRETT Wilkie is set to add more shine to his glittering career, with the Helensvale bowler in line for the sport’s highest honour.

Bowls Australia yesterday confirmed the finalists in 11 categories for next month’s Hall of Fame and Awards Night at Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise.

Among those to get the nod is 43-year-old Wilkie, who will battle last year’s World Bowls Championsh­ips’ gold medal winning pairs teammate Aaron Wilson for the coveted Internatio­nal Bowler of the Year gong.

The awards, held on October 26, will recognise the sport’s most outstandin­g athletes, administra­tors and officials is will have a distinct Gold Coast flavour given there will be a number of Hall of Fame inductees, as well as Kelvin Kerkow’s elevation to Legend status.

In the Under-18 Bowler of the Year categories recent Australian Open singles gold medallists Jono Davis and Jessica Srisamruay­bai are both finalists for the respective boys’ and girls’ gongs.

They are up against Australian developmen­t players Lachlan Sims and Kate Matthews, who competed at the Trans-Tasman test series.
