JEWEL BEGINS TO SPARKLE AS GLASS CASE TAKES SHAPE

- KATHLEEN SKENE kathleen.skene@news.com.au

JEWEL is beginning to get its sparkle, with the first glass panels of the striking design lifted into place.

The glittering glass will eventually cover the steel and concrete to give Jewel its distinctive crystalline form as construction of the three towers continues throughout next year.

The project will feature 16,000 glass panels, just shy of the 18,925 panels on Q1 down the road. Sales director Frank Joris said the glass would make Jewel one of the most recognisable buildings in Australia.

“This is a very exciting time for Jewel,” he said. “For years now, Gold Coasters have been watching the site change, and in the last year we’ve seen the three towers beginning to rise from the sand.”

Jewel is one of numerous major construction projects under way on the Gold Coast, including the 89-storey Spirit building and 90level Meriton tower on the Surfers Paradise Esplanade.

The project will eventually house 512 luxury apartments, a hotel, dining and retail.
