THANK you Robert Orr for your comments on beach pools (Your Views, 11/9).

The pools would be very popular with those who enjoy the health benefits of a swim in the salt water.

They are also an excellent tourist attraction at other Australian locations, especially among those who are not strong swimmers.

I have discussed this issue with friends who likewise want such pools. Such pools are ideal for swimmers like myself who no longer have the stamina to body surf and whose balance cannot sustain the force of the waves.

I hope the GCCC will give this matter high priority and that those who are now onlookers will be able to participate fully in the joy of a swim at the beach. P.M. WALLACE, MIAMI

WHILE I believe bollards are a good idea, I don’t think that pop up ones are the best way.

Why not ones that can be moved and used anywhere when required? I expect boundary’s will move and they will be obsolete. QUEENIE

ADEQUATE base load power in Australia, that will effect all household and business energy supplies, is at a crisis point.

Yet the media is only concerned about are same-sex marriage, indigenous victimisation and citizen eligibility of MPs.

Australia has lost the plot and any sense of priority. We must stop all these distractions that Shorten, Labor and Greens keep concocting for political spin and get on with the hard work of looking after our national interests and do something constructive. DAVID CHAN

WE ALL know crime on the Gold Coast is out of control, we don’t need statistics, which there are doubts over, to tell the locals.

Who’s to blame in Runaway Bay … in the past six years both the ALP and LNP have made promise after promise to fix the numbers and it has never happened.

The Police Commissioner’s reported response is to send more top cops to fill the gaps of those who are accused of corruption.

The LNP talks of having tougher laws but without the police to catch offenders it means nothing.

Common sense dictates that to fix a problem like this you need to employ and train more police so you can get them onto the streets.

Open up the police station to 24-hour service so we have enough police to catch hoons and thieves at night.

As a Biggera local, I know people have long memories of empty promises and bad management even when presented by new faces. RON NIGHTINGALE

IF I’M reading the news correctly, the UN will only allow its climate change scientists to report on man made emissions and excludes natural emitters such as volcanoes.

So it appears if a volcano disperses large quantities of emissions then it will show up as human emissions.

No wonder they can come up with these dramatic numbers. GT
