NEW WOMAN IN SINGO’S LIFE TURNS HEADS AT CANTERBURY

- BRAD DAVIDSON

WOMAN, one of the best bred horses in the country, showed she had some talent on the track as well when she made a winning debut at Canterbury yesterday.

The John Singletonowned filly, who is by unbeaten British great Frankel out of More Joyous, was well backed into $1.65 and settled off the speed before finishing over the top of her rivals to win the TAB Rewards Handicap (1250m).

Co-trainer Adrian Bott was tickled pink with the debut effort.

“It was so pleasing to see her do that particularly for the team and Singo,” said Bott, who co-trains the filly with Gai Waterhouse.

“She was the ultimate professional today and I think we saw she has so much scope to go on and there is plenty of improvement there.”

Bott is undecided about what is next for Woman.

“It was really impressive. She probably took a little while to build into it and I think she will get over a lot further in time and she is bred to do that,” he said.

“The best part of her race was on the line and she was going away from them.

“The plan was to get this race out of the way first and we will see how she comes through it but we wanted to give her a light campaign.

“There is a nice race in a couple of weeks we could look at but we are very mindful of what we want to achieve in the autumn.”

Winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy was impressed.

“She is a big girl now and she has grown and has got a lot taller,” he said.

“It was pleasing to see her do that ... and her last furlong was quite strong.”
