It’s over for star Rose

-

THE career of Queensland Horse of the Year Yankee Rose is likely to be over.

Sunshine Coast trainer David Vandyke said the star mare had trouble with her good front hoof after she worked on Tuesday at Cranbourne as she prepared for the Victorian spring carnival.

“She must have been putting her weight on the other foot and she’s a bit lame,” he said.

Vandyke didn’t accept for the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington on Saturday and her owners will put the mare up for sale.

“I’ll keep her ticking over but it’s the optimum time of the year to sell her as a broodmare,” Vandyke said.

Yankee Rose, a daughter of All American, was a $10,000 yearling purchase.

She won four of her 10 starts, including the 2016 ATC Sires Produce and Spring Champion Stakes, for more than $2 million in prizemoney.
