Members watchdog group in the works

THE Titans will move to form a “members advisory group” following a successful meeting with their diehard supporters, Gold Coast chief executive officer Graham Annesley has revealed.

The club held a members forum on Tuesday night at Griffith University after a controversy-filled and ultimately disappointing year.

Gold Coast finished the season 15th on the ladder and again bruised by sagas such as Kevin Proctor’s removal from the captaincy for his part in a drug scandal, and the stand-off between Jarryd Hayne and coach Neil Henry that led to the latter’s axing.

About 250 members came out in force to engage with Annesley as well as former board members Rebecca Frizelle and Darryl Kelly, who are bidding to buy the club from the NRL.

Hard questions were asked and answered across two hours in an honest and frank environment, leading Annesley to hail it a productive night.

He said plans to deliver more such opportunities were well received.

“One of the things that our membership manager Chris Knell spoke about at the end of the night was forming a members advisory group,” Annesley said.

“There was a lot of interest in that and that will take place over the coming months.

“Hopefully we will be able to meet with a representative group of the members on a more regular basis to share information and keep them informed about what is going on in the club so I think that will be a good initiative.

“It’s always good to be in touch with the members. They are the people who pay their hard-earned cash to come to the games.”

While the club’s sacking of Henry and uncertainty surrounding his replacement is understood to have been a hot topic, a range of issues surfaced at the meeting.

“Nothing was off limits,” Annesley said.
