HEALTHY NEW LOOK FOR TWIN TOWERS

- ANDREW POTTS andrew.potts@news.com.au

A $400 MILLION twin-tower development focusing on health and wellbeing is finally set to become a reality.

The Elegance development, put forward by the Chinese Government-linked Hubei United Development, was first proposed two years ago but is now moving forward with a new look.

The project has already been approved by the council and the developer last month filed a revised development application featuring minor changes to the towers, which are between 45 and 50 storeys.

Among the revisions were changes to the plaza and tower design, a slight increase in the height of one of the buildings and a decrease in the number of permanent apartments.

The number of short-term accommodation units is to increase.

Hubei, based in Wuhan city in Hubei province, is to build the 45- and 50-level towers on a former Hungry Jack’s site at 2605 Gold Coast Highway.

The 3783sq m site, which also fronts Mermaid Ave, was bought by Hubei subsidiary UMB Properties at $34.1 million last year.

The Mermaid Beach towers will house 536 apartments sitting above three levels of restaurants, shops, offices and recreation facilities.

The retail precinct is to include health food and vitamin shops, organic cafes, massage parlours and a naturopath.

Facilities expected to be available to residents would include day spas, indoor and outdoor meditation rooms, libraries, yoga studios and Zen gardens.

The developer previously announced it hoped to complete the towers by 2020.
