QUEENIE (Your Views, 13/9) the idea of the pop up bollards is twofold. First is to restrict unauthorised access but the second one is to retract them so emergency services can have easy access when needed. THE approach of the Tate-led Council regarding Black Swan Lake at Bundall is emblematic of this council’s behaviour towards major developments in general.

Independent testing by an accredited lab shows the water is well within the State Government safety standards.

Rowley Goonan, a local wildlife rescuer for more than a decade, has never seen an animal killed by

“toxic” water in the lake. There is no record of any animal death due to toxicity there.

The only reason Crs Tate, Baildon, Gates and others could have for claiming the lake is toxic, is there is a secret property development proposal in existence.

The lake, filled in, is worth perhaps $6 million. That land, developed with condominiums, would be worth many times that amount.

It is an outrage that the inner urban Gold Coast, already deficient in public parkland, is having a beautiful lake destroyed.

The pattern is similar to the Wavebreak Island heist, the Spit casino scam, the Bruce Bishop Car Park sale across the street from the Mayor’s building and now the proposed destruction of the bowls and tennis clubs for a ghastly casino.

This is all for the developers, not the community.

All involve destruction of small businesses and jobs.

The State Government should sack this council and place it into administration. FOR those who enjoy a salt water swim there are several options available the western side of the spit and the Broadwater park to name two. The Bulletin has recently published several articles about Aboriginal art fakes being produced.

What’s the problem? I did not think a style of painting can be patented. This style of dot painting was introduced to Aborigines by an English teacher, I think in the 1950s, who tried to create a means of income for the people. YOU report a Swiss study which shows women zero in on the attractiveness of a man’s belly.

That’s a surprise. l always thought they were more interested in a bloke’s bank balance, while l find tatts on a woman an immediate turn-off. SO LET me get this straight. First they want to build a Chinese-style theme park at Nerang.

Then it’s going to be a Chinese and Aboriginal-style theme park.

Now it’s going to be an Australian-style theme park. You’re doing our heads in.

Where are the plans and as anyone asked for the locals’ thoughts?
