KIDMAN WINS BIG WITH LITTLE LIES

-

NICOLE Kidman has dedicated her lead actress Emmy win for Big Little Lies to her two young daughters and said she hoped the role and accolades would shine a light on the “insidious disease” of domestic abuse.

It was a big night for the Australian actress. Just minutes after being named outstanding actress in a TV mini-series, she was back on stage with her co-producers, including Australia’s Bruna Papandrea, when Big Little Lies took the mini-series award.

“I’m also a mother and a wife and have two little girls, Sunday and Faith, who I asked to help me pursue this artistic path and they have to sacrifice so much for it,” Kidman said on stage.

“So this is yours.

“I want my little girls to have this on their shelf and to look at it and go, ‘every time my Mum didn’t put me to bed was because of this. I got something’.”

In Big Little Lies, Kidman portrays a mother suffering psychological, physical and sexual abuse from her husband.

“It is a complicated, insidious disease that exists for more than we allow ourselves to know,” she said.

Big Little Lies is based on Sydney author Liane Moriarty’s best-selling novel.

It was a rough night for Australia’s other nominees with Judy Davis, Kate Dennis and Geoffrey Rush all missing out.
