8th Ave Terrace at Palm Beach will feature Rowanston Estate at their next Meet The Maker wine lunch. From the Macedon Ranges in Victoria, the team at Rowanston use traditiona­l techniques to create their range. Winemaker John Fredrickso­n will be at the event to explain how each and every grape is hand picked, basket pressed and open fermented before spending some time on oak. Sample the 2013 Blanc de Noir with oysters, wasabi roe, ginger foam and soy, before the first entree of smoked chicken terrine and toasted brioche paired with the 2015 Reisling. The 2014 Rosé will be poured with gin and beetroot cured white fish before a main of chargrille­d rump cap and the 2012 Merlot. Dessert is the NV Sparkling Shiraz with chocolate mousse. Tickets are $90.

The North Room at Mermaid Beach will host a dinner with Chaffey Bros. Wine Co. from 6.30pm. Guests enjoy four courses and five wines for $79. Bookings essential.

NOVEMBER 7

The Melbourne Cup function field is firming up, with Baask releasing its function packages. Celebrate beachside with roving canapes, a three-hour premium drink package and a flute of Chandon champagne on the sun deck by the sea. There’s also all-day music, race commentary and a fashion show. Tickets start at $120.
