GCRL start probe into brawl

GOLD Coast Rugby League manager Scott Dunshea says no time frame has been set on their investigation into a brawl between players and fans at the A Grade grand final.

Work has begun to try and piece together what sparked a physical altercation between Runaway Bay players and spectators during the second half of the club’s grand final against eventual premiers Burleigh Bears at Pizzey Park.

Witnesses have already come forward and Dunshea said GCRL were eager to work with police, Burleigh and Runaway Bay to get an understanding of what occurred.

Players from both sides were unable to be interviewed by GCRL yesterday amid Mad Monday celebrations and Dunshea said they would not be rushing the investigation.

“We are fully aware of what has happened in the alleged incident and have started our investigation process,” he said.

“There are obviously a number of people we want to talk to and we need to try and identify some of the spectators if we can from the limited footage we have got.

”There is no time frame for the investigation’s completion but we want it done as soon as possible because we would like to get it put it to bed.

“We want to make sure it’s a thorough investigation and we interview all the people we possibly can. If that means it takes a few days longer to get an outcome well so be it.”

Dunshea believed two spectators were asked to leave the ground following the furore.
