MOTHER Nature put on a spectacula­r lightning show on Friday night as a storm swept across the city – and photograph­ers went crazy for it.

Even budding snappers like 12-year-old Oliver Thornwaite got their cameras out.

“I started taking photos around Christmas last year when a got my first camera,” he said.

“It’s a Canon and I just taught myself how to use it and picked it all up pretty fast.

“Now I just try to photograph whatever I see, whenever I have time.”

The Runaway Bay youngster said he knew the secret to capturing lightning on camera.

“You need to set up your camera to a slow shutter speed and a low aperture which will let more light in and make the photo brighter,” he said.

“Someone who has inspired me is (US YouTuber) Casey Neistat, he’s a vlogger and filmmaker that makes awesome videos, I watch them every day.”

The Friday thundersto­rm cleared in a number of hours, leaving the Gold Coast with perfect conditions on Saturday and Sunday as temperatur­e reached 30 degrees in parts of the city.

But if you thought it was hot over the weekend, you’re in for a surprise this week.

Weatherzon­e meteorolog­ist Jacob Cronje said the Coast was in for a scorcher.
