MORE than 560 surf lifesavers turned out to compete at the annual Queensland Endurance Championsh­ips at the weekend.

Entrants from 41 clubs across Queensland and interstate converged on Coolangatt­a for the first major carnival of the season.

Alexandra Headland of the THERE were thrills and spills as the world’s top scooter riders performed gravity-defying tricks in front of a crowd of more than 1500 Sunshine Coast took out the top honours at the event and Gold Coast clubs Kurrawa, Southport and Northcliff­e rounded out the top five.

Former Ironman champion Grant Kenny won the 50-54 years 2km board paddle and 6km ski paddle, while son Jett claimed gold in the open male 10km surf ski. at Pizzey Park in Miami yesterday.

The winner of the fourth annual Scooter Hut Pro Scooter Series was defending champion JonMarco Gaydos from New Jersey in the USA.

Fellow US scooter riders Cody Flom and Dakota Schuetz managed nabbed second and third place.

More than 10,000 people from across the globe tuned into the online livestream of the competitio­n, according to Scooter Hut online manager Trent Disney.

“It was bigger and better than last year,” he said.

Mr Disney said the event had been an “amazing” experience for competitor­s and attendees.

Only one competitor, American Tyler Chaffin, was injured during the event.

Chaffin required stitches for a dislocated finger.
