NQ island set to become giant magnet for Cowboys’ fans

MAGNETIC Island has been renamed Cowboys Island this week in a bid to rally behind the North’s home team.

“For us it’s important, we’re all so excited,” Townsville Enterprise chief executive officer Patricia O’Callaghan said. “The community spirit is high (and) it’s also an opportunity while the national spotlight is on us to promote the region.

“A lot of Magnetic Island residents are major fans. Tourists are getting right behind the initiative.”

Mayor Jenny Hill said it was a fitting gesture.
