Mum turns down son’s bail bid

- ALEXANDRIA UTTING

THE rattled mother of a 34year-old plasterer accused of a wild rampage has refused to have him bailed to her address – so he spent the night behind bars instead.

Reece Condon mouthed “I didn’t do anything mum” from the dock when he appeared at Southport Magistrates Court yesterday after being arrested at Robina on Friday. His arrest followed an alleged afternoon frenzy after his ute collided with two vehicles stopped at a red traffic light on Guineas Creek Rd, Elanora.

Condon is accused of getting out of the car following the crash and assaulting the 80-year-old male involved.

The elderly man was transported to John Flynn Hospital with a broken nose and bruises to his right eye and the back of his head.

Condon is accused of then stealing one of the vehicles involved in the collision before crashing it a number of times in a series of hit-and-run incidents on the M1 around Robina.

He then allegedly jumped out of the car and tried to flee on foot before police caught up with him at Robina Stadium.

Condon has been charged with serious assault of a person over 60, serious assault of a police officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The court heard Condon denied assaulting the elderly man and his mother refused to provide her address for her son to be bailed to.

Condon’s matter was adjourned until today.
