Ridegoers left high and dry by power cut

-

THRILLSEEKERS on Movie World’s HyperCoaster were stranded at the top of the ride for almost 10 minutes following a power outage yesterday.

The outage affected the theme park and also cut power to 462 homes in Helensvale.

A spokesman for Movie World said the rollercoaster, which was ascending the tracks before the power cut, stopped for 10 minutes around 3.20pm.

He said patrons were safely able to complete the ride when power resumed.

Other rides were also affected and after being rechecked by staff, resumed as normal.

The rollercoaster opened to the public on Friday.

An Energex spokesman said the power problem appeared to have been the result of an electrical fault that occurred at a nearby housing estate, which tripped the themepark’s safety system.

The spokesman said: “It was back up and running relatively quickly. They (Movie World) did lose power internally, it’s like a safety switch.”

More than 100 homes in Bundall were also affected by the power cut.
