MEEKAH Wright is ready to race rings around the competition – and the boys, more specifically.

The 10-year-old Oxenford local will be the only representative for Queensland when she heads to South Australia this weekend for the national quad biking championships.

“The motto of our racing group is: ‘We don’t chase boys, we pass them,’” said Meekah, who is part of the Quik Chix Racing Team.

“It’s good that girls are involved instead of just boys, most of us girls beat the boys because we’re faster.”

Father Shannon Wright said Meekah would be up against at least 100 other competitors, some of whom had spent up to $50,000 on their quads throughout the year.

“But she’s got a really good chance (of winning),” he said.

“In the last couple of years she’s really matured as a racer ... with how confident she is.

“Everyone sits back and asks where she came from. It surprises me too, she’s my little baby, I didn’t push her.”

He said Meekah had been riding quads since she was two years old, taking after her older sister. Between them the girls raised $400 at a sausage sizzle to help pay for the trip to the Polaris Australian ATV & Sidecar Motocross Championship.

The championships will be held this weekend at Murray Bridge, South Australia.
