GOLD Coast businesses will hear from the nation’s bestplaced experts on how to make the most of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, thanks to the Gold Coast Bulletin, which has been named official supporter, newspaper and news site for the event next April.

With News Corp Australia and Sky News, the Bulletin will next month host the Going for Gold Legacy Symposium, which will bring together world class industry and policy leaders to explore the benefits and legacy of the Games and how they will affect the community, development, infrastructure and employment.

News Corp has commissioned research into the benefits and legacies of the Games, which will be presented at the symposium by acclaimed demographer Bernard Salt.

Goldoc chairman and former Queensland Premier Peter Beattie will discuss the scale of the 2018 Games for the Gold Coast and former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett, who was instrumental in Melbourne winning the 2006 Games, will give his insights into the Victorian legacy.

News Corp Global CEO Robert Thomson will also address delegates.

Sky News Live will broadcast the event, including a panel discussion hosted by Ticky Fullerton, featuring Queensland Tourism Minister Kate Jones, former Queensland Premier Rob Borbidge and Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate. Premier of Queensland, Hon. Annastacia Palaszczuk will also address symposium delegates.

The presentations and discussions will focus on the future of the Gold Coast with a view into what local businesses, the economy, real estate and development will look like and the impact of the Games.

World class marketing expert Joe Rogers from leading brand agency The Contenders will conduct a mini marketing masterclass to help set businesses on the path to prosperity, post Games.

Gold Coast Bulletin general manager Clare Starling said the symposium would provide precious practical advice for small and medium businesses in the city.

“I think as the key media outlet on the Gold Coast, we have a responsibility to provide that support for our local businesses,” she said.

“The speakers are the best placed people in Australia to provide insight into the scale of the Games and how business owners here can prepare and make the most of the opportunities presented by the Commonwealth Games.

“The symposium will look at the impact of the Games beyond the sporting realm, and how that connects to people here in their day-to-day lives.”

News Corp Australasia executive chairman Michael Miller said the Gold Coast would be in the international spotlight during GC2018.

“Not only are we committed to playing our part in delivering a successful GC2018 Commonwealth Games, we also want to ensure a transformative legacy for the region, well beyond 2018,” he said.

The Going for Gold Legacy Symposium is being hosted by News Corp Australia, Gold Coast Bulletin and Sky News Australia on October 31 at the Marriott Resort Surfers Paradise. It is a three-hour breakfast brunch event, with tickets $80 per person or $720 per table of 10. For more information go to: goldcoastbulletin.com.au/goingforgold
