MANGROVE DECK TO MAKE A REAL SPLASH
A KEY project to improve spectator access and public safety during the Games has been unveiled at the Southport Broadwater Parklands.
The new Broadwater Mangrove Deck, constructed in wetland habitat behind the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, was opened recently by Mayor Tom Tate and as a legacy project for the city.
The $770,000 works, jointly funded by City of Gold Coast and the Queensland Government, include timber decks, dune restoration, pathways, seating, shading and improved park space. Artwork depicting local marine life by indigenous artist Lisa Sorbie Martin is prominent throughout the precinct including a unique piece on the roof of a shaded sitting area.
