SHINING TIME FOR WOMEN’S SPORT

ONE couldn’t blame our city’s female AFL players for saying: “Forget the Games and bring on 2020.”

Yesterday’s announcement that the Gold Coast Suns will join an expanded AFL Women’s competition in three seasons is tremendous news for our current stars and, more importantly, the female footballers of tomorrow.

When the Brisbane Lions soared to this year’s inaugural AFLW grand final, it was on the back of a group of Gold Coast-based players who constantly trekked up and down the M1 for training and matches.

From 2020, those women will be able to represent our Suns and as far as we’re concerned, that’s a dawn that can’t come quickly enough
