Munster’s moment to shine

SOME called it the greatest debut in State of Origin history. Cameron Munster – wearing the No.6 Maroons jersey made famous by the likes of Lewis, Lockyer and Thurston – set Suncorp Stadium alight with the series on the line in this year’s decider.

He was a fullback manufactured into a five-eighth by the Melbourne Storm and suddenly the hopes of a state were resting on his 22-year-old shoulders.

“I don’t think I could have played a better all-round game,” Munster says of his Origin baptism.

“The only thing I could have done better was score a try to be quite honest.”

Munster could deliver the killer blow to Thurston’s Cowboys in Sunday’s NRL grand final. He will start at fiveeighth in a playmaking spine comprising “The Big Three” – Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk.

It’s the same quartet which delivered Queensland this year’s Origin series with a 22-6 win in Game Three.

“I’ve still got a lot improvement to go but at the moment I’m doing okay and I’m pretty happy with what I’ve done this year,” Munster said.
