The Gold Coast Bulletin

New editor for Bulletin

-

A NEW editor has been appointed to the Gold Coast Bulletin. Ben English will take over from Scott Thompson at the end of October.

Mr English is one of Bulletin owner News Corp’s most experienced journalists and editors. He has been the editor of the Townsville Bulletin since January 2016 and was previously deputy editor of Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph and News Corp Australia’s European bureau chief. His past roles at The Daily Telegraph have also included Sydney Olympics chief reporter, state political editor, chief-of-staff, business editor and sports editor.

The Executive Chairman of News Corp Australasia, Michael Miller, said Mr English’s experience would prove invaluable as the Coast prepares to host the Commonwealth Games.

“Ben’s wide experience in Australia’s fastest moving media marketplace and his business, sport and Olympic roles position him perfectly to take over at the Gold Coast Bulletin,” Mr Miller said.

Mr Thompson, who departs the Bulletin to attend to family matters, leaves after a storied career which also included spells as editor of The Cairns Post and The Sunday Mail.

The Sunday Mail under his editorship was the 2011 PANPA Sunday newspaper of the year and in 2001 he received a News Corp Global Excellence Award.

“His contribution will be greatly missed,” Mr Miller said.

Mr Thompson said he looked forward to welcoming Mr English to the Gold Coast.

“It has been a career highlight to spend the last year at

The Bulletin and in the Gold Coast community ... but I have a close family member to support and have decided to leave the company at this time,” he said.

“I look forward to welcoming Ben as the new editor of

The Bulletin, introducing him to the team and the people who make the Gold Coast community tick.”
