Coast the best place to chill out
AS parts of Queensland sweltered through temperatures above 40C yesterday, the Gold Coast revelled in a spectacular day of blue skies and cool breezes.
Temperatures were expected to reach up to 38C in Nerang and Coomera but 48km/h winds ensured the maximum temperature reached was just 28.3C at the Seaway.
“You just can’t have a hot day with a sea breeze like that,” Weatherzone meteorologist Craig McIntosh said, adding even inland suburbs hovered about 28C.
The hottest temperature recorded was 41.4C at Longreach with Winton and Julia Creek following close behind at 41.3C.
Mr McIntosh said similar temperatures would be in store for today and the weekend, with wet weather expected to relieve the Gold Coast by Monday.
“It’s looking wet for Monday,” Mr McIntosh said.
“The greatest chance of showers is at lunch time on Sunday at this stage and should get heavier as we head into Monday and Tuesday.”
There is a chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday.
