Young trio charged over ‘car rampage’

Two teenagers and a woman have been charged after a rampage in a stolen car on the Gold Coast on Saturday. The trio were spotted about 11pm after an off-duty officer saw them driving a stolen Mercedes on the M1 at Coomera. The police helicopter was used before a police dog squad officer saw the car on Olsen Ave at Labrador. The car was tracked by Polair to Blake St in Southport.

Accused killer’s bizarre sandwich death

A man accused of murdering his girlfriend has choked to death on a plastic-wrapped chicken sandwich in jail. Lance Michael Pearce, 34, had been placed in custody at the Metropolit­an Remand and Reception Centre in Sydney’s west last week after being charged on Tuesday night. Pearce was accused of strangling his partner Blair Dalton, 35, who was the mother of his young son, to death in her Ettalong Beach home.

Coast Uber driver charged with rape

An Uber driver allegedly locked the doors of his car and raped a woman, 20, on the Gold Coast. The Coombabah man, 24, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was refused bail in the Southport Magistrate­s Court on Saturday morning after being charged with rape and assault relating to the alleged incident.

Barack Obama’s nanny living in fear

The former nanny who helped care for a young Barack Obama now lives her days in a shelter for transgende­r women. Born a man, Evie identifies as a woman but is forced to dress as a male due to widespread discrimina­tion faced by Indonesia’s LGBT community. The nanny, who cared for the boy who would go on to become the US president, was discovered living on Jakarta’s streets in 2012, fearing for her life.
