Premiers want Walters

-

BILLY Walters is about to continue the legacy of his famous surname in rugby league, with the young playmaker set to sign a deal with Melbourne.

It is understood the Easts Tigers five-eighth is on the verge of inking a two-year deal with the NRL premiers, following in the footsteps of his father Kevin and uncles Kerrod and Steve, who are all considered greats of the game.

Walters, 23, picked up interest from the Storm and Broncos in recent months, after he helped lead the Tigers to the Queensland Cup semi-finals.

Storm football manager Frank Ponissi said with Cooper Cronk moving on, Walters was a clear option to replace him.
