Scott to sit out World Cup

-

THE Kangaroos have been dealt a World Cup blow after Cowboys prop Matt Scott admitted he was set to miss the season-ending tournament

Scott is expected to be left out of the squad named today despite making a remarkable recovery from a knee reconstruction after what was thought to be a season-ending injury in Round 2.

Scott’s ability to put himself in selection consideration for the premiership decider renewed belief he could turn out for the Kangaroos in the World Cup, with Australia to begin its campaign against England on October 27.

However, the 32-year-old said he would sit out the tournament to focus on returning at full strength for the Cowboys in 2018.

“I don’t think (I’ll play), having not played all year,” Scott said. “I’m still well short of the nine-month recovery initially diagnosed.”

Scott’s absence from the Kangaroos has opened the door for the likes of Test hopefuls Reagan Campbell-Gillard (Penrith) and Melbourne’s Jordan McLean.
