- SUZANNE SIMONOT

LOCALS and tourists will be able to enjoy a month of movies on a big screen under the stars when a pop-up outdoor cinema bumps into Coolangatta next month.

The American Express Openair Cinema will screen more than 30 sessions of films including Blade Runner 2049, Logan Lucky, The Big Sick, Battle of the Sexes, Halloween and The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Queen Elizabeth Park, Coolangatta, from October 19 to November 19.

The program of fun, food and films even includes a Doggy Dates service for people who want to pat a pooch while they watch a film, with proceeds to support the RSPCA.

Coolangatta is the opening leg of a trans-Tasman tour that includes stops in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth, Auckland and Christchurch.

The pop-up cinema also features a Crafty Corner where moviegoers can ‘Pimp a Pineapple’ or enjoy a knitting or macramé masterclass.

Italian cuisine specialists Salt Meats Cheese will transport diners to the streets of Rome with a series of threecourse alfresco long table dinners as part of a rewards program for AMEX card members.

Head honchos Stefano De Blasi and Edoardo Perlo will also curate a daily menu.

Tickets start at $12.50. Visit openaircinemas.com.au
