Traffic blitz nabs 2500

-

MORE than 2500 motorists have been fined in the northern region of NSW during a three-day traffic blitz over the long weekend.

Nearly 1300 people were caught speeding and 56 were caught drink-driving while a further 1369 motorists were issued infringements for a number of reasons including failure to wear a seatbelt or using mobile phones while driving.

Acting Assistant Commissioner David Driver of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said it was disheartening to see people fail to obey the road rules.

“It seems that despite our warnings, too many people still made the decision to speed or drive dangerously on our roads,” he said. THE State Opposition is calling on Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to put Gold Coasters out of their misery and call an election so the Pacific Motorway can be fixed.

Ms Palaszczuk, visiting the Coast on Monday, blamed Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull for funding delays in the upgrade of the M1.
