Moore to open Coast operation
SYDNEY trainer Gary Moore will open a satellite stable on the Gold Coast.
Moore has revealed his plans to open a base at the Gold Coast from November 1 in another major coup for the city’s racing scene.
“My son David (will look after the stable),” Moore told RadioTAB.
“I’d be definitely looking for staff, possibly a foreman. We will start off small and hopefully work into it.”
The trainer, who won the Macau premiership eight times, shares a special affinity with Queensland given the link it has with his father, legendary jockey George Moore. George was from Mackay and rode 21 Group 1 winners in Brisbane.
Moore said his affection for the sunshine state and the restrictions on stable space at Rosehill led to his decision to branch out to the Gold Coast.
“With dad being a Queenslander I think it’s the way to go and with limited boxes here at Rosehill,” Moore said.
“I love coming up (Queensland) way and I love to win.”
Moore will initially bring five horses to the Gold Coast as he looks to take advantage of QTIS bonuses.
Moore is the third well known trainer to open a Gold Coast operation in recent months following Chris Waller and Stephen Lee
Moore has raced horses on the Glitter Strip on and off for years and Gold Coast Turf Club chairman Brett Cook said his move reinforced their current strength.
“It’s fantastic news that someone of Mr Moore’s stature has decided to have a satellite stable on the Gold Coast,” Cook said.
“It just reinforces that the club is on the right path and reinforces how important the planned infrastructure upgrades are to the track and Queensland. The trainers want to be part of racing in Queensland so we have to make sure we have the infrastructure.”
