City strikes to lock in superstar Sam

-

SAM Smith’s “unfinished business” is the catalyst behind the striking assassin snubbing cashed-up rivals and inking a new two-year deal at Gold Coast City.

The NPL golden boot winner has provided early impetus to the club’s 2018 campaign, with Smith’s signature coming a day after coach Grae Piddick confirmed his own extension.

The Englishman proved one of the best buys of 2017, firing in 22 goals to power City into the NPL finals as well as a deep FFA Cup sojourn.

As part of the new contract, the 27-year-old takes charge of the club’s under-16 team.

“For me it was a massive decision to sign on for two more years, but I have really enjoyed it this year,” said Smith, who was chased by high-profile interstate clubs.

“I’ve obviously done well personally. It was a shame we didn’t win the league but I think it was a successful season, but from my point of view we have unfinished business.”

The club are in talks with a range of players for 2018 and further announcements are set to be made in coming weeks.
