- QUEENSLAND PREMIER ANNASTACIA PALASZCZUK

IN JUST six months, Queensland will host the biggest event in its history.

Games partners continue to work around the clock to ensure GC2018 will be a resounding success and a pivotal moment for our state when the eyes of the world are on us for 11 days of spectacular sporting action.

We know holding an event of this size and calibre is a significant commitment.

What we are already seeing – and will continue to see well after the games – is a transformational social and economic legacy that will last for decades.

The Gold Coast and our event cities – Cairns, Townsville, and Brisbane – will host the amazing trifecta of a world class sports program; Festival 2018 – an arts and cultural extravaganza that will ignite community pride and provide a platform to celebrate local talent; and Trade 2018 – the State Government-led trade and investment program promoting the export potential of Queensland’s flourishing businesses and industries.

As the Queen’s Baton Relay winds its way through the state, the spirit of our communities will be celebrated and a host of our legendary tourism destinations showcased to the world.

The spread of our event cities and the breadth of the Queen’s Baton Relay ensure that all of Queensland can share in the tourism benefits of this wonderful event.

The Queensland Government’s Embracing 2018 program has delivered the first Games related Reconciliation Action Plan.

It has helped local businesses ready themselves for the opportunities the Games present, and delivered initiatives to inspire active and healthy communities and raise awareness of the scourge that is domestic and family violence in our communities.

Major venue upgrades and improvements have also been part of the tapestry of initiatives undertaken even before the first starter’s gun has been fired.

Overall, the Games will deliver a multi-billion economic boost to our state, boost a range of exports, attract more than 600,000 visitors and support thousands of jobs, including around the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge precinct.

April 2018 will truly be a memorable moment in our history with so many reasons to celebrate being a Queenslander.
