CCC’S FIVE KEY ACTION POINTS
1
Candidates, groups of candidates, political parties and councillors will be banned from receiving “gifts” from property developers. The CCC recommends the laws closely follow NSW’s.
2
Expenditure caps for candidates, with the potential for different caps for incumbent councillors and challengers.
3
All expenditure must be disclosed within seven days of being received and must be made publicly available by the ECQ as soon as practically possible, or immediately if within seven days of polling day.
4
The Local Government Electoral Act be amended to require candidates to declare their current and former political affiliations and the duration of their membership.
5
The definition of a group of candidates be changed to include those people who use common or shared campaign resources such as campaign workers.
