CCC’S FIVE KEY ACTION POINTS

Candidates, groups of candidates, political parties and councillor­s will be banned from receiving “gifts” from property developers. The CCC recommends the laws closely follow NSW’s.

Expenditur­e caps for candidates, with the potential for different caps for incumbent councillor­s and challenger­s.

All expenditur­e must be disclosed within seven days of being received and must be made publicly available by the ECQ as soon as practicall­y possible, or immediatel­y if within seven days of polling day.

The Local Government Electoral Act be amended to require candidates to declare their current and former political affiliatio­ns and the duration of their membership.

The definition of a group of candidates be changed to include those people who use common or shared campaign resources such as campaign workers.
