Desal plant fills a void
THE Gold Coast Desalination Plant is supplying more than 170,000 locals with drinking water while vital pre-Commonwealth Games infrastructure works are undertaken.
Energy and Water Supply Minister Mark Bailey said maintenance of the Mudgeeraba Water Treatment Plant would see the desalination plant increase production to provide up to 88 million litres of drinking water each day.
The maintenance work at Mudgeeraba, one of two major treatment plants supplying the Gold Coast, is expected to take about eight days.
Seqwater chief executive Jim Pruss said it was the fifth time since 2015 the desalination plant has been used to maintain drinking water supply outside of emergencies.
