Amazon chase over

-

AMAZON has been ordered by the European Union to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in overdue taxes which it evaded as part of an illegal deal with Luxembourg.

Brussels said the internet shopping giant failed to pay tax on more than three-quarters of its European profits for eight years.

It comes as the Australian Tax Office prepares for the arrival of Amazon down under.

The company has a market valuation worth $589 million.

The aggressive move by the EU comes months after Google to pay $3.38 billion and Apple was handed an unprecedented $20 billion tax bill.
