Plumb gig for son of ‘The King’

- JEREMY PIERCE

THE son of “The King” will give holiday-makers the inside scoop on Queensland as part of a new multimillion-dollar Tourism Australia campaign to be launched today.

Actor Lincoln Lewis, the son of Queensland rugby league great Wally Lewis, is one of the leading faces of the new Aussie News Today tourism campaign, which promotes Australia through a series of mock news reports.

Lewis joins rugby larrikin Nick ‘The Honey Badger’ Cummins and TV presenter Teigan Nash for the campaign, with the trio shooting videos about some of the country’s majestic tourism spots.

Lewis, a former Home and Away star who still stays with his parents in Brisbane when not travelling for acting assignments, said he was excited to be following a long line of personalities used to promote Australian tourism.

“There’s been so many great tourism ambassadors over the years, from Paul Hogan to Chris Hemsworth,” he said. “I feel very honoured to not only be following in their footsteps but also to have the opportunity to help promote this amazing country.”

The campaign is aimed primarily at young travellers such as backpackers, who generate millions of dollars a year for the tourism sector thanks largely to many taking extended stays or working holidays Down Under.

Federal Tourism Minister Steve Ciobo said travellers aged under 30 were a critically important part of Australia’s visitor mix.

“Young travellers and working holiday-makers stay longer, disperse more widely throughout our country and ultimately spend more than most other travel segments,” he said. “This campaign is a great way to share a bit of our land Down Under with young travellers around the world seeking fun and adventure.”
