THE Star Gold Coast has been recognised as the State’s most luxurious and prestigious place to stay and dine after taking out two top industry awards.

The Broadbeach property was awarded Best Deluxe Accommodation and Best Prestige Restaurant (Kiyomi) at the 2017 Queensland Hotels Association Awards for Excellence at a gala ceremony at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Wednesday night.

The Star wasn’t the only Coast property recognised at the 25th annual awards, which celebrate the cream of the crop in hospitality industry.

Surfers Paradise Marriott Hotel’s Selvakumar Gopalakrishnan was named Chef of the Year, Hope Island Tavern won Best Gaming Venue, Meriton Suites Southport was named Best Suite/Apartment Accommodation and Best Meetings & Events Venue RACV Royal Pines Resort was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Acclaimed Japanese restaurant Kiyomi’s QHA win was its second in three years while the hotel chalked up its first QHA win since reopening after a major refit.

The Star Entertainment Group managing director Queensland Geoff Hogg said the award wins were testament to the work completed so far as part of the refurbishment and the dedication of the property’s talented staff.

The refit saw The Star’s 596 rooms receive a luxurious coastal lifestyle makeover that involved more than 50,000m sq of wallpaper, 2515 pieces of locally commissioned artwork, 180km of electrical cable and 424,940 man hours.

Mr Hogg said The Star had played a pivotal role in shaping the face of the Gold Coast during the past 32 years.
