PARADISE NOT LOST HERE

-

marked, the former Premier, given his workload is considered a “bargain buy”.

The financials confirm the top executives are on big coin but the argument here is incentives play a critical role in keeping the good ones from being poached.

GOLDOC chairman Mark Peters is on a $534,000 salary which includes a $53,000 post employment bonus. The State Opposition is keeping watch on these payments.

Several academic studies are circulating including one from the Griffith Business School which surveyed support for the Games.

Their business confidence poll showed 44 per cent were “very confident”, 19 per cent “moderately confident” and only 6 per cent “not confident”. But there is a need for caution with the report warning that the Coast must not fall victim to “mega event syndrome”.

Some businesses do not do well during big events and will need to scale down. Others in competition venues at Nerang, Labrador and Currumbin can expect to see increased demand. The report notes that some locals will be “disengaged with the Games” and leave the city. Some non-tourism businesses will see a 40 per cent drop in trade.

Staff employed by tourism operators will need to work double shifts. Others such as trucking companies require workers to drive on less congested roads at night.

Talk to small business operators near venues where roads will be closed and they are bracing for six weeks of confusion.

The feedback is Paradise Point emerged as a clear winner as a freshly turfed area was opened up for families, reflecting the positive planning work by area councillor Cameron Caldwell.
